Production means the whole process from harvest to the bottled oil.
In Styrian pumpkin seed oil making, the seeds are washed and dried, then milled. Water and salt are added to form a mash, which is gently roasted. The roasted mash is pressed mechanically; the oil is not refined. Official descriptions say freshly pressed oil is left to stand for at least seven days so particles settle. About 2.5 to 3 kilograms of seeds are needed for one litre. Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI follows the EU product specification.
